EVLT®, or Endovenous Laser Treatment is a minimally
invasive procedure that offers the latest advance in varicose
vein treatment. The procedure is becoming the "gold standard" in
treatment for this problem and produces superior results with
minimal side effects.
Some of the advantages:
- Typically a 45-minute office procedure
- Local anesthetic is used
- 98 - 93% success rate
- Very little to no scarring
- No hospitalization
- Lowered risk of complications
- Quick one to two day return to
normal activities
- Covered by most insurance plans
Here's what to expect from the EVLT® procedure:
- Your
doctor uses ultrasound to map out your vein.
- Local anesthetic
is applied.
- A thin laser fiber is inserted through a tiny entry
point, usually near the knee.
- Laser energy is delivered to
seal the faulty vein.
- Walking immediately after the procedure
is encouraged. Normal daily activity can be resumed; just avoid
rigorous activities such as gym workouts.
- There may be minor
soreness and bruising. Any discomfort can be treated with over-the-counter,
non-aspirin pain relievers as necessary.
